Most inner tubes have a standard straight Schrader valve that sticks straight up toward the hub, or they use a bent 90 or 45 degree angled stem that projects straight out from the tire’s side. A 45/45 angled valve stem not only offers the knuckle-saving 45 degree “crook” in the stem that facilitates attaching the air-hose chuck, it is also canted at a similar 45 degree angle away from the tube (or wheel’s) centerline. In other words, the tube’s Schrader valve is pointed at a 45 degree angle to the front or rear. This feature is especially useful to protect the relatively exposed valve stem from damage.
